For obvious historical reasons, education remains arguably one of the country’s biggest challenges that need to be decisively tackled to push back the frontiers of poverty and create a better life for all South African’s.

Naturally, the Transnet Foundation treats education, or the lack of it, as seriously as the Government. To demonstrate this commitment, the foundation’s expenditure on projects aimed at redressing the gross imbalances in education constitutes about 25% OF ITS TOTAL BUDGET, THE SECOND BIGGEST AFTER SPORT AT 30%.

The portfolio is also involved in teacher upgrade and community outreach programmes, empowerment of educare teachers and the development of vulnerable groups such as unemployed youth, women and people with disabilities.
